Remember the best times, and make new memories with your kids.

It’s easy to get lost in the day to day of parenting. Changing diapers, feeding kids, cleaning up after them, and trying to get them to sleep are all tasks that you do most everyday as a parent. It can become overwhelming and monotonous all at the same time. However, not all of parenting is boring like this. There are special moments that come and go - it’s important to focus on and live in those moments.

More often than not, we capture the best moments of parenting in pictures and videos. Sure, you may have a video or picture of your kid throwing a tantrum, but your first thought generally isn’t to pull out your phone and record your child when they’re having a hard time of it. Pull out your phone and take a look back at the latest pictures of your kids - you’re likely looking at happy moments with your kids.

When you’re having a rough day, or if you’re just missing your kids, pull your phone out and look at those pictures and videos. Remember the happy moments that you’ve had with your kids over the years, and revel in the magic that the kids bring into your life. Using past experiences to lift you up today is a great way to push through hard times. It can often make you realize that life isn’t as bad as it seems in the moment.

It’s also important to try to capture moments with your kids as they happen as well. In this day and age, that’s generally not that hard to do. In fact, we often overdo it as parents by taking pictures and videos of kids. There’s a fine line between spending time with your kids in the moment and capturing those moments. Try not to overdo it, but try to capture a few moments that you can look back on later.

Let your kids watch those videos and look at those pictures as well. It’s fun to spend time sitting and remembering the fun adventures that you had as a family and the places you went together. It’s always fun to hear what kids remember about things that may have happened a few years prior as they often remember very different moments that you do. They simply like different things than you do.

Those photos and videos will be the only thing you have at some point in your life. Your kids will grow up, move out, and start their own family and life. While you will still be able to see them, you won’t have them there on a daily basis. This will be a tough transition, and by having the memories that you can look back on is a great way to get through it. You spent a lot of time and effort on raising that child turned adult.

Parenting has a lot of highs and lows. It’s easy to get bogged down by all of the low parts of parenting, but it’s important to focus on the good as well. It’s really easy to get lost in the moment and think that everything is bad and won’t get better. Use those tangible memories to realize that life isn’t all bad - there will be times that are better than others. You’ll get through to them soon enough.

Spend time in the moment with your child. Take photos and videos of the best moments, and hang on to them forever.
