There will be days and weeks where you feel like you’re hanging on.

Go to sleep - it’s been one of those days (or one of those weeks). You know what I mean - you’re barely surviving the days with your child. Its one problem to the next, and you’re exhausted. Of course, you’ll probably be up a few times at night with your child, so there’s no rest for the weary. You’ll get through this, but it may take some time. Keep going - you’re doing great.

You’re also not alone in these hard days. Parents all around the world are struggling through days and nights with their child. They’re at the end of their rope, and they’re not sure they can do it. It’s totally natural to feel that you’re just barely hanging on and that some days you’re done with it all. Keep at it - do your best to not let the negative feelings overwhelm you, and try to remember the good times.

Raising a child is a lot of work. Anyone who tells you otherwise either doesn’t know or is simply outright lying about it. Sure, there are times where raising a kid is awesome. If you ask someone in that moment, they may tell you about how great it is. But if they really step back and look at it, they would tell you that there are definitely plenty of moments where parenting just plain out sucks, really.

When you’re feeling like you’re done with parenting, you need to try to find a way to make some time for yourself to do the things that you enjoy doing. Even just 30 minutes of doing an activity that you enjoy without your child can really save your sanity. You really need to lean on those around you when you’re having those negative feelings. Get someone to watch your child while you rejuvenate.

Another great way to break up the monotony of trying to take care of your child is to get them outside. Go for a walk around the neighborhood, even if you’re just pushing your child in the stroller. There’s something about breathing in some fresh air and hearing noises that are around the area that you live that can be a great boost to your morale. Your child will be glad to get out of the house as well.

If you’re stuck inside due to bad weather or some other circumstance, then turn the TV or tablet on for your child while you take a break. Yes, sitting your child in front of technology for hours on end everyday isn’t recommended or great for them, but if it’s the only way that you can get a break and feel like you’re enjoying life then you should absolutely do it. Use technology to your advantage when you need to.

Remember to keep your focus on the happy moments of your child’s life. Those moments when they smile or when they give you a hug unexpectedly. Too often in the moment, we focus on the negative experiences that we’re having. It’s usually after the fact that we can look back and see all of the positive and good experiences. Try to flip that so that you’re able to see the positive in the moment rather than the negative.

Every parent has days and weeks where it feels like they’re just surviving. You’re not alone, and you will get through it.
