Kids will make your house smell like an outhouse sometimes.

There’s no way around it - kids are stinky. Sure, they smell like heaven when you’ve just bathed them and rub them down with baby oil. That’s one of the most wonderful smells you’ll ever experience as a parent. Unfortunately, most of the other times you’re just smelling everything else that your child has to offer. Most of the time those offerings are ones that you’d prefer that they didn’t give.

When your child is still in diapers, you at least know to expect stinky diapers. You know that there will be poop to be cleaned up and changed. Sure, it still stinks, and there’s often a tally going between parents to know who cleans up the next poopy diaper, but at least you know that it’s coming. You’re hoping for a standard poopy diaper that takes a wipe or two to clean up and that can be moved along from.

Explosive poopy diapers are probably the worst to deal with, They make the whole house stink, and you have a huge mess to clean up - clothes to wash, a child to clean up, and other places in the house that need to be cleaned. Making sure your child is in the right diaper size can go a long way in helping you avoid these situations, but you’re still likely to clean up a few of these as your child does the diaper years.

Unfortunately, that’s usually just the beginning of the stinky smells in your house. While your child is now getting their poop into the toilet, you’ll still have to deal with them burping and farting. For some reason, boys seem to be more prone to this phase where they think every sound they make is hilarious. You just think it’s disgusting, and you really don’t want to smell your child any more.

Kids also need to work on keeping their feet from smelling. Make sure that your child is always wearing socks with their shoes - if they don’t you will likely find that every time they take their shoes off, you’ll be looking for a clothes pin. Sweaty feet inside of shoes is the perfect way to destroy those shoes from ever being useful again, and a great way to make you run away whenever your kid takes the shoes off.

As your child moves into the years of puberty, they’ll start to sweat and simply produce other smells that make no sense to you. Teach your child that they absolutely need to make sure they’re bathing on a regular basis. Just because they don’t smell themselves doesn’t mean they don’t stink. Once they can smell themselves, then it’s already too late and everyone else has been smelling them for awhile.

It’s not just boys that smell either. Girls produce plenty of funny smells that can often make the house stink. Yes, girls fart and sweat as well, so don’t be surprised when you find that your daughter has passed gas and you’re now enjoying the smell. Make sure that you open the windows in kids rooms when you can - simply airing out rooms is a great way to help keep the smells down.

Your child is going to make your house smell in ways you probably don’t like from the day they are born. Be prepared for some unpleasant smells, and enjoy the nice fragrances when you can.
