Sometimes you need something sweet. While you can just eat some candy, there is something about making a s'more that is a lot of fun.

We do not have a lot of sweet foods in our home. We try to eat healthy, and we try to keep treats and sugary foods to a minimum. Our kids have enough energy without adding a bunch of extra sugar to the mix. Getting them amped up even further just makes for a tough few hours.

However, sometimes I just need something sweet. While my kids can go without most days, I still struggle with not eating anything sweet. Of course, since we do not have a lot of sweets in our home, that means I do end up skipping sweets a lot of times (which is why I always recommend to not have the sweet stuff in your house).

A few weeks ago, we had done a fire outside with the kids, and as part of that we had bought marshmallows and chocolate for s’mores (we already had graham crackers). We hadn’t touched those items since.

As such, when I was craving something sweet, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to bust out the goods and make a s’more inside - I didn’t feel like building a fire. My kids weren’t about to argue with me either as they both loved them the last time.

S’mores in the microwave are one of the easiest things to make, and while they aren’t the same as having one with a perfectly browned marshmallow off the fire, they are still quite tasty.

Break your graham crackers in half, set your chocolate on the cracker, and then set the marshmallow on top of the chocolate. Set it all on a plate and put it in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds (keep an eye on it). The marshmallow will start to expand - that’s when you know it’s ready. Pull it out, and place the other half of your graham cracker on top.

Now you’ve got a delicious and tasty snack that takes only a few seconds to prepare.

If you want to mix it up a little bit, I actually love Reese’s on my s’mores instead of chocolate. In the microwave, I’d put the graham cracker and Reese’s in for about 10 seconds at first, and then put the marshmallow in for 15 to 20 seconds. You’ll have an absolutely sweet and delicious mess to eat.

There are several other ways to mix up a s'more as well - you can use basically any chocolate bar or candy bar that you want, you can use fudge covered graham crackers (a little bit messier this way in the microwave), or you could skip the chocolate all together - please don't do this as it's an abomination to what a s'more is supposed to be. However, there's nothing wrong with mixing it up a little bit.

There’s a reason we don’t keep most of this stuff in our house very often. I’d have a lot more pounds on my body, and going for a six pack wouldn’t really be an option. However, an indulgence every now and then is totally worth it in my book.
