If you’re looking for a way to eat pizza on a diet then look no further.

Pizza is one of those foods that is absolutely delicious and will completely destroy your diet. Most people like pizza, and it is not surprising why. Besides the crust, you have got a bunch of cheese with other toppings on top. The stuff is loaded with fat, and it shows when you eat it - it’s absolutely addicting. If you don’t like pizza, then consider yourself lucky. All of that goodness adds up to a lot of calories.

For most pizza places, a slice of pizza will start at 250 calories. If you’re able to eat a single slice of pizza, then you should also consider yourself lucky. There’s not much additional nutritional benefit to pizza either, so it’s really just a lot of calories without much additional benefit to it. Most people will eat 2 to 3 slices of pizza in a single sitting - 750 calories (minimum) isn’t too bad, but you’ll be working hard to eat enough protein after that.

The real problem though is that pizza will often leave you feeling hungry again within a couple of hours. While 250 calories a slice isn’t terrible, you’re going to want to keep eating more and more. Before you know it, you’ll have blown way over the number of calories that you should have eaten for your meal, and you’ll be trying to find a way to eat less calories or else gain weight over time.

However, you don’t need to despair. We’ve got you covered with a low calorie, high volume alternative to regular pizza that tastes just as good (if not better) and will keep you full for much longer. The recipe also has a decent amount of protein in the pizza, so you’re not simply wasting calories on something that tastes good. You’re also getting important macronutrients as part of your pizza.

The two main places that calories come from in pizza are the crust and the cheese. By limiting the calories in those two ingredients, we can get a much higher volume than you would otherwise. This recipe will limit the amount of cheese you use and replace a standard crust with a lavash by Joseph’s brand - this is a high protein, low calorie wrap that is perfect for replacing pizza crust. The recipe:

  • 1 whole Joseph’s lavash bread (120 calories)
  • ½ cup of homemade pizza sauce (30 calories)
  • ¼ cup of fat free mozzarella cheese (45 calories)
  • Up to 50 calories of deli ham (50 calories)
  • Up to 100 calories of additional vegetables (onions, peppers, olives, mushrooms, etc.)

Putting the pizza together is simple: preheat your oven 400F; place lavash on a baking sheet; put the pizza sauce on top, followed by your deli ham and vegetables; sprinkle cheese on top; put in the oven for about 10-12 minutes (once the edge is nice and crisp); remove from the oven and let sit for a couple of minutes before eating.

This pizza will run you 350 calories for the entire thing. It’s simple to put together, and it’s going to be quite filling. Even better, this pizza is going to give you 30g of protein - that’s more than double the normal amount of protein in a slice of pizza. For 350 calories you can’t go wrong with this pizza. You likely aren’t going to feel like you need to eat a bunch more either, and even if you do, you can make two of them and you’ll have only had 700 calories which is less than 3 slices of pizza.

This pizza is also excellent because it lets you put your favorite toppings on it. Perhaps you want a hawaiian style pizza - no problem, just put pineapple for your vegetables. Perhaps you’d prefer more meat - that’s also an option as well (although calories will likely be higher). The main ingredient that you can’t add a lot of is cheese - it’s simply too high in calories compared to the serving size.

If you feel like pizza every single day, that’s not an issue at all. This pizza takes about 20 minutes from start to finish, and it’s quite healthy. You won’t even feel like you’re on a diet when you’re eating this low calories pizza. Losing weight doesn’t always have to be completely miserable. Finding low calorie foods that taste good are the best way to lose weight while still feeling full.

Pizza is delicious. You can make it part of your everyday life if you want by being creative and using lower calorie ingredients to make a delicious meal.
