Just because you have kids does not mean you can not travel.

If you are thinking about having kids, then you are probably trying to learn everything you can about them before it happens. One of the common themes when it comes to having kids is that your travels will never be the same again. There is no question that there is a lot of truth in that saying. Travelling with kids is very different than without them, but that does not mean you will never travel again.

Traveling with kids is definitely more work than traveling alone. You have to pack all of their stuff, make sure you have whatever odd items they may require, and be able to deal with screaming and crying. Yes, it’s definitely a lot more work to travel with kids. But traveling with kids can also be a lot of fun. You’ll be building some of the best memories of your lifetime with your kids.

Just because you have kids also doesn’t mean you can’t travel at all. Young babies are often the easiest age to travel with a child outside of kids that are in their teenage years. While they may cry a bit, they can’t move all around just yet which makes the travel part of a vacation much easier. You’re not trying to convince them to sit still and telling them they can’t move around at all because that’s what they already do.

You certainly don’t have to travel with kids, but if you have the means to do so, then we’d highly recommend that you do so. Yes, it’s more work, but getting kids out of the house and seeing other parts of the world around them is a great way to teach them about history, other cultures, and how people are different. Travel will open their eyes to how different and unique the world around them is.

Perhaps the biggest difference between travelling with kids and travelling without them is the speed with which you can do things. While you may have been able to move between multiple sites and locations in a single day without kids, expect to spend a lot more time getting packed up, and getting on the road once you have them. Depending on the age, you can expect to do about 50% less with kids than without them.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It gives you the opportunity to enjoy the different areas and sites that you visit a bit more thoroughly. Rather than trying to cram one too many things into your day, you’ll remove a few items and make your day just a little bit less chaotic. You’ll need the time to be flexible more than anything as you simply never know when your child is going to need something.

You’ll also need to be patient as part of your travels with kids. If you’re late for something, you’re late. If you can’t be late, then leave extra early to make it to your destination. Do your best to let things roll off your chest that you may have otherwise gotten upset about. Travelling is supposed to be an enjoyable experience, so try to be as flexible as you can with your kids and plans to make it enjoyable.

You can travel with kids. Your experiences will be different, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it. Pack the kids up and keep visiting different places around the world.
