Whenever you have a break, get your book out to read.

Whether you’re working or taking care of kids during the day, you’ll often find yourself with some type of break that occurs. If you’re trying to find time to read, this is the perfect time to do so. Taking time to read during those free minutes that you have is a great way to rejuvenate your mind and get back to whatever task awaits you on the other side of it. Take advantage of those moments for reading.

Finding time for reading for most parents is often difficult. It’s not like you have a ton of free time every night where you can choose what you want to do with your time. If you’re not playing with your kids, you’re likely trying to clean up the huge mess that they’ve left behind. You’re also likely a bit sleep deprived depending on the age of your kids and how well they actually sleep - you’re extremely busy.

That simply means that you’re going to have to be a bit more stringent with your time and what you spend doing with it. You need to make sure that you’re spreading quality time with your kids, and you shouldn’t sacrifice that time. However, you don’t have to spend every waking minute of your day with them. It’s not healthy for them if you do and you’ll likely find that they grow too attached if you do.

Take your time that you do have, and make a list of the priorities you have. What do you really want to do with your free time? If you want to sit and look at your phone because it really makes you happy then you can do so. But we’d recommend that you find something more engaging that will keep you away from social media and wasting time. Whether it be books, video games, or something else, find something engaging.

Reading is a great way to keep your mind occupied and engaged while also getting away from the stresses of life. Getting lost in a book is a great way to really disconnect from the world. Whether you’re into fantasy or nonfiction, a book can transport you into a completely different place all while you’re sitting down. You can travel to years in the past or a different world without actually moving.

As someone who is busy most nights with kids, taking time during my breaks at work and reading is a great way to get some reading in. I force myself to get away from my desk at least twice a day for 10 minutes simply to read. This has two major benefits for me. First off, it allows me to clear my mind from the stress it’s under. Second, it lets me enjoy doing something that I like to do.

On the weekends, when I’m not at work, I have to find other breaks throughout the day for some reading. For example, right after lunch is often a great time to get 5 to 10 minutes of reading in. The kids are filled up with food, and they don’t have quite as much energy to run around. This often means that they’ll sit or lay around for a bit of time. Whatever time I can find is often found with a book in my hand.

Use your breaks and free time to read some words. You’ll often find that reading is a great way to clear your mind.
