If you read more than a few times a week, an e-reader is a must have device. It will greatly simplify your ability to get in some extra reading whenever you’d like.

I haven’t always had an e-reader, but I did get the second model of the Kindle when it came out several years back (received it as a gift). Since then, there has never been a time that I’ve gone without an e-reader simply because they are so convenient.

I will admit that I’m a pretty voracious reader. I read everyday, and usually more than 30 minutes. Reading is one of the things that I love to do. However, you don’t have to read as much as I do to make an e-reader worth it. Below are a few reasons why you should get an e-reader.

Take it anywhere

You can take your e-reader basically anywhere you want. They are small enough that they can fit in a pocket or a purse without issues, and they are quite light to carry around. Trying to lug around a physical book is a lot of work - you can do it and I do do it sometimes, but it’s much easier to grab your e-reader.

I take my Kindle to the park with me whenever we go there. I take it to the store, I take it outside, I take it to the couch, I take it to bed. My Kindle is almost always on me somewhere, and will often come out when I have a few free minutes.

Even better is that you can read it even when it’s dark, assuming you have a backlit e-reader - the Paperwhite is ideal for that. I don’t have to have a light on at all - just have my Kindle. It’s perfect for camping, or right before bed.

Read in basically any weather

I’m not afraid to get my Kindle out even when it’s not ideal weather. We live in a cold weather state, and as such it will often be snowing or raining outside. That doesn’t stop me from using my Kindle. I make sure to wipe it down afterwards, but I don’t have any issue using it in such weather. Obviously, you can’t do that with a physical book.

Similarly, I bring the Kindle out in the hot or cold. I’ve never had any issues with it in either extreme. While it feels a little sluggish in colder weather, it’s not really that big of a problem.

The reason that I often have my Kindle out in such weather is because I read on my walk in to work. I have about three blocks that I have to walk from my parking lot to the building I work in each day, and so I’m always reading a book during that walk.

Get most books anytime you want

Yet another great deal with an ebook reader is that you can get most any book when you want it. You may have to pay for a book to get it immediately, but if you’re willing to wait a little bit, you can generally get them for free from your local library.

You don’t have to go anywhere to get the books, you just need to connect to the internet and the book will be added to your device. It is very seamless, and it makes it easier to read what you want, when you want.

Conclusion

An e-reader will greatly simplify your life if you want to read more. If you have kids, it makes it very simple to grab and go with a book whenever you want.
