Sometimes, you just need a big sandwich wrap to hold you over.

Are you ever in a position where you feel like you’re starving and could eat a whole pizza? You order that pizza, get through half of it, feel like you’re going to explode, and then realize that you’ve eaten all your calories for the day in a single meal. While it’s not the end of the world if you overeat every now and then, it becomes a problem when you’re consistently overeating and can’t control it.

Recently, we’ve been eating some enormous sandwich wraps in our home, and they have kept us satisfied and are quite tasty. Sandwich wraps in general are usually a great meal, assuming you’re buying wraps which are not too high in calories. Some sandwich wraps have more calories than two slices of bread do which would generally make them a poor option to replace bread with.

For our sandwich wraps, we’ve been using Joseph’s Lavash. These things are awesome. For an entire wrap, there is 120 calories and 12 grams of protein. Each flatbread is two servings, so technically you could split it in half for only 60 calories and 6 grams of protein. Of course, you won’t be able to eat as huge of a wrap if you do that, but depending on your calorie goal, it may be the better option.

The reason these wraps are so awesome, beyond the macros, is that they are very big, so you can get a ton of food inside of them. You can put two to three times as much food inside of these as you can a basic sandwich wrap. When you’re really hungry, or simply want to eat a bit more, these wraps will have you covered. Below is our favorite recipe for under 500 calories to eat in these wraps.

  • As much spinach or lettuce as you want
  • As much white or green onion as you want
  • A full medium size tomato, sliced
  • Red pepper or cucumber sliced
  • 4 slices of deli ham, up to 100 calories
  • 2 chicken strips/tenders, sliced into strips
  • Fat free barbecue sauce

Put all of your vegetables on the wrap. Next, lay out your deli ham across all of the vegetables. Put the barbecue sauce on top of the ham. Finally, lay the chicken stirps across the ham, and roll the wrap up the best you can. Rolling it like a hotdog is probably easier as you may end up with a wrap that is bigger than softball if you roll it like a hamburger. You may still end up with a wrap that large.

The great thing about this wrap is that it is going to fill you up. You’re eating less than 500 calories, getting a ton of protein, eating something that’s sweet and savory, and overall quite healthy. There’s a good chance you won’t be able to finish this whole wrap, but that’s perfect as you’ll have some left over for later. Your kids may laugh at you trying to get these things into your mouth as well.

These wraps can be prepared most any way you really want, but they’re great for making huge wraps without a ton of calories. You’re not going to go to your local sandwich shop and find anything that comes even close to a wrap made out of these lavash. You’ll be looking to at least double the calories for something that’s as filling. These are great for helping you maintain and lose weight.

If you’ve never tried Joseph’s Lavash before, you should definitely get some. You won’t be disappointed in their size and taste, and you’ll likely be going back for more.
