Need an idea of something to play inside? Hide and seek is a classic game, and even in a small apartment can liven things up a little bit.

There are times where you'll be stuck inside for more days than you want to be. Your child will be ready to get outside and play with others, and you most definitely will be ready for them to as well. Whatever situation you find yourself in though, sometimes you'll have to find an activity inside to do.

At times like this you'll have to get creative and play a lot of different games you don’t normally play at home. One of those games that we have found to play at times like this is hide and seek.

While hide and seek can certainly be an inside game on any regular time, it's often hard to make it work if you've got a small house or if there's not a lot of room to spread out - hide and seek is much more fun outside as it starts to get dark. Regardless, play hide and seek inside when you're looking for a game to play.

When I was younger, we played hide and seek a little bit at home, but I don’t recall my parents ever playing with us. We did have 8 kids in our family though, so there probably wasn’t really a need for them to play with us.

Since my youngest is still a bit little, he likes to hide with his brother. Thus, we take turns counting vs hiding. First, I count and they hide. Once I find them, they count and I hide. We’ll just continue to go back and forth like this for quite some time before heading to do something else.

The kids like to hide on their bed (under the covers) a lot. My oldest son will often help my younger son get under the covers and then run somewhere else to hide. It is a lot of fun to find the youngest hiding on the bed as he usually has a huge smile on his face when I pull the covers down.

They also like to squeeze into their closets, and hide behind curtains. Wherever it is they’re hiding, I usually make sure to take a little bit of extra time to find them. Feeling like you’ve found an excellent hiding spot always feels really good.

I like to hide behind doors, on a bed, or just behind a wall (like in a shower). The kids are usually quick to find me, but it’s still fun to have a good laugh with them after they find me. As they've gotten older, moving from spot to spot if they miss me makes it a little more challenging for them.

If you have multiple levels, I’d recommend staying on just that level for hiding and finding. If your kids are older, going to more than one level is fine. We’ve found that going to a second level just makes it take way too long to find the others, but we also have a two year old.

What you can do though if you have multiple levels is play some on one of those levels, and then play on the other level - that way you mix it up a bit, but you’re not having to move up and down constantly to try to find someone.

Conclusion

I’d love to hear what other games people are playing at home. We’ve always played hide and seek inside a lot in the past, and it's one of our favorite indoor games.
